Widespread Use
There are many experts who call the use of fluoride a widespread dosing and doping. Fluoride has been around since the 50’s. Fluoride helps to drop decay rate by over 60% and it is also helpful in eliminating tooth sensitivity. It does so by hardening the enamel. Unfortunately, it does a lot more than this. Fluoride can break down collagen thereby causing damage to bones, connective tissue, arteries, and skin. It can also cause the following symptoms:
- Irritability
- Anxiety
- Nervousness
- Digestive problems
- Stiffness of joints and muscles
What most people don’t know is that fluoride is a byproduct of aluminum production. Yes, the same metal that is toxic to your body. This byproduct has killed livestock and crops in areas where it was dumped by manufacturers. It is illegal to dump fluoride in lakes and rivers but it is fine to put it in our drinking water. The same water that irrigates the crops that we eat. Even bottled water now has fluoride in it.
History of Flouride Use
Fluoridation started in the 50’s with the use of Sodium Fluoride. Now the main form is Hydrofluorosilicic Acid which is a byproduct of phosphate fertilizers. These are known as Silicofluorides, a substance that has never been approved by the FDA. It is banned in Europe but not in the good old USA. This form of fluoride is simply known as a neurotoxin and is implicated in the following adverse effects:
- ADD/ADHD
- Memory loss
- Hyperactivity
- IQ problems
Fluoride is used to manufacture the following pharmaceutical drugs:
- Cipro
- Lipitor
- Levaquin
- Paxil, Prozac, Celexa, Lexapro
- Diflucan
- Prevacid
- Celebrex
- Flonase
- Advodart
- Decadron
You will find it in almost all of our food and drinks since at some point in time fluoridated water was used to wash or make that product.
Lead and copper pipes corrode at a faster rate due to fluoride.
Most dentists recommend fluoride to patients who have high decay rates because it helps to slow down the rate of decay and in some cases it can actually prevent it.
The basics of the decay process is as follows:
You forget to brush and floss your teeth today. By midnight you will have a sticky film coating your teeth known as plaque. This “hotel” becomes a safe haven for bacteria, particularly Strep bacteria. If you don’t brush and floss to remove the plaque by next morning the bacteria will multiply and then will use the next few molecules of sugar that you consume to breed and survive. If you continue to neglect your hygiene the Strep bacteria will grow to large colonies. Part of their life cycle includes excretion of acids which destroy your enamel and cause decay. As the decay progresses it will eventually eat its way into the pulp (the inside of your tooth that houses the nerve and blood vessels) and cause more bacterial growth and infection. This infection will slowly spread from the root into surrounding bones. That’s when you will get severe pain and a swollen face.
Fluoride can help stop this process by replacing the Hydroxyl molecules on the enamel thereby making it stronger and more resistant to the acids excreted by the Strep bacteria. At the same time, it enters your bloodstream, tissues, and organs and can cause a lot of damage as it like to replace the same Hydroxyl molecules on the bones that generate your blood cells.
So the bottom line is this: if you brush, floss, and eliminate sugar from your diet you don’t need to worry about ingesting/using Fluoride.
In the 1800’s an ounce of sugar cost more than an ounce of gold. Now, sugar is the cheapest product available on the market. Science had to develop a counterbalance to the effects of sugar in order to stop tooth loss. But at the same time the consequences it created are more dire. We will discuss sugar later.
Fluoride is also recommended to help stop sensitivity especially in people who grind and clench their teeth. These are the patients that we treat on a daily basis. People who clench will slowly lose bone around their teeth and this causes the cementum of the roots to get exposed. This area of the teeth are ten times weaker than enamel and more predisposed to breakdown and wear/tear. Fluoride can help to restrengthen the cementum (roots) and decrease sensitivity at a heavy price.
So, most of us are in a Catch 22 situation where we have consequences of diet and habits destroying our teeth and science has created some help, however this aide is causing other issues in our body. You are sort of dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t, unless you learn to improve your diet.
The other major problem with Fluoride consumption is that it will hurt your Thyroid gland. It is estimated that over 75% of the population has undiagnosed Thyroid disease. Most blood tests may confirm normal function but the parameters are too lenient when it comes to analysis. Fluoride competes with iodine and displaces the binding site receptors within the thyroid gland thereby affecting production of T3 and T4. You may have normal blood levels of T3 and T4 but they are not binding properly and are not allowed to work because the Fluoride has blocked their ability to function.
Steps to Promote Healthy Teeth & Eliminate Flouride
So, what steps can you take to promote healthy teeth and eliminate Fluoride. Here are our recommendations:
- Switch to a natural toothpaste that has NO Fluoride, like Tom’s. You can also brush your teeth with baking soda mixed with Hydrogen Peroxide.
- Stop using any mouthwashes that contain Fluoride.
- Use reverse osmosis to clean your water, including bottled water. Even a simple carbon filter can work for most contaminants but not for Fluoride. Only reverse osmosis can remove fluoride.
- Stop consumption of sugar filled foods, including all sodas and fruit juices.
