Don't Ignore Cavities
If you ignore a cavity eventually the only way to save it is by completing a root canal. There are lots of articles that describe the toxic effects of root canals and the impact that they can cause on your health.
Can root canals cause:
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic inflammation
- Bacterial infections in other parts of your body
- Heart problems
- Kidney malfunction
- Brain deficits
- Organ dysfunction
Toxicity from root canals is a topic that has been discussed since 1922. Research has proven that root canaled teeth have an inflammatory marker known as TNFa – Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha – in the bone adjacent to the tooth. Other concepts point to the fact that BIOFILMS are produced around root canals and the bacteria found in these contain MARCoNS (Multiple Antibiotic Resistant Coagulase Negative Staphylococci) which is similar to the popular MRSA. If these bacteria are traveling around your system it could be interesting to speculate whether antibiotics will ever work for a bad case of pneumonia or other similar infection. These type of bacteria can also cause Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) which is similar to mold toxicity. In later chapters you will learn why mold and anaerobic bacteria are the underlying cause of many of our ailments. Biofilms are also categorized under the same category as dental plaque which causes decay.
Common symptoms of MOLD or CIRS or MARCoNS are as follows:
- Ice pick pain
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
- Joint pain
- Night sweats
- Excessive thirst
- Increased urination
- Cognitive impairment
- Blurred vision
- Digestive problems
- Weakness
Biggest Problem May Not Be What You Think
The biggest problem may not be the root canal procedure but the lateral and accessory canals of the teeth. Most root canals cannot properly disinfect and clean out the bacteria in these additional canals. Bacteria can continue to live and breed in these canals therefore causing continuous release of toxins in your system.
On the other hand, an improperly completed root canal can cause continued damage to the bone surrounding it. Even a well done root canal can still present with areas that are unfilled, causing a harbor for bacteria to grow. A root canal can actually cause stagnation of fluid flow in the area surrounding it. This can further cause bacteria to hide in lateral canals of the tooth that is root canaled. This is especially true as the bacteria change from an aerobic type to an anaerobic species. This means that they can now survive without oxygen and can release more toxins into the body.
In order to determine whether a root canal is healthy or not you must have proper XRs and clinical examination done. In some cases CT scans are necessary to get a 3D view. The main symptom of a failing root canal is pain upon biting or tapping on the tooth with a dental mirror. Such pain may indicate infection or fracture. Either will cause toxin load to your body.
We have seen patients who have requested that their root canaled teeth are removed as they feel that these teeth are causing health problems. We advocate against such treatment because there are better ways to treat your health, specifically teaching and helping your body eliminate TOX. In many cases the problem is caused by poor hygiene and most symptoms disappear after a patient is taught proper oral hygiene. Furthermore, improving your overall health will help your body to eliminate this form of TOX.
At the same time, we see lots of patients with failing root canals who are healthy and have no systemic diseases. They have one thing in common: a high capacity to eliminate and remove TOX from their bodies. That is ultimately the goal of all treatment options.
Root Canals & Cancer
You will undoubtedly read many case studies on the web that point to the link between root canals and cancer. Such cases have shown a connection between a molar root canal and breast cancer. Drs Thomas Rau, Zachary Bush, and Jerry Tennant have published such studies showing over 90% correlation between all cancers and root canals. What is most important in such studies is to look at the quality of the root canals and the overall other health issues of these patients. A person with underlying systemic disease is already predisposed to the slightest offenses and even a slight cold or gingivitis can set off an avalanche of problems.
In our practice we have performed thousands of root canals, some going back over 30 years. Most of these patients have enjoyed optimal health and their root canaled teeth are still functioning well. On the other side of this token, we see many failing root canals. The common denominator is that the root canals were inadequately performed. Most have short fills or the dentist has failed to clean out all canals properly. Many times, it comes down to disinfection of the root system. Sodium Chlorite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Peridex and Hydrogen Peroxide should always be used together to completely disinfect a root canal system. Some practitioners will also use Ozone.
Keep in mind that teeth control meridians similar to light switches. When you have a root canal or missing tooth that light switch is in the OFF position.  Energy may stop flowing to that organ.
Keep in mind that the most important factor to all disease is the need to ELIMINATE. Placing blame on root canals is usually not the first place you want to look unless there are obvious pain or other symptoms.
